Sugarloaf Update 12/14/12

Strait from the site:

Things are really kicking into gear here at Sugarloaf this week. It looks like cold temperatures are going to work their way back into the mountains this evening, and snowmakers will be back at work on a slew of trails tonight, including Haywire, Spillway, Whiffletree, and Widowmaker, among others.

Coverage is looking good on Ramdown and Spillway Crosscut, and if all goes well with snowmaking on Whiffletree overnight, we could be skiing on the east side by tomorrow. Patrol will be scoping out the situation first thing in the morning, so be sure to check in with us bright and early. Snowmaking will still be in progress on Whiffletree tomorrow, and we'll wait to open the Whiffletree lift until snowmaking is finished and groomers are able to till things out.

Tomorrow we're looking at temps in the teens and low 20s, with mostly sunny skies. Snow surfaces have held up particularly well as of late, remaining hard packed and easily edgeable, and you can expect more of the same tomorrow after groomers hit everything tonight.

Look for 28 trails and six lifts tomorrow morning; ticket prices are $59 for adults, $49 for teens, and $39 for juniors and seniors.

And not to jump the gun, but forecasts are looking better and better all the time for a good shot of natural snow early next week.

The Widowmaker Lounge is the spot to be this weekend, with Good Company set to play Friday and Saturday, before opening for Paranoid Social Club on Saturday night.

Sunday River Update 12/14/12

Strait from the site:
The Aurora Peak Quad officially opened today for the first time this season as Ski Patrol dropped the ropes on Northern Lights, Sensation, and Peak Easy. The addition of the 3 trails brings our total to 47 trails over 219 acres, meaning Sunday River is still the leader in most open terrain in New England! That total could increase as soon as tomorrow with more trails opening including Green Cheese, Kansas, and lower Lollapalooza for ski-out access from the Jordan Grant Hotel.

Plus, we’re looking at dropping the ropes on Dream Maker from Second Mile down, just in time for Night Skiing, which launches tomorrow night during Winterfest for only $5. Also, cross your fingers for snow on Sunday! The forecast is calling for a few inches to fall on Sunday with possibly more to come on Monday.

Snowmaking continues tonight in Starlight, Jib Park, and Rocking Chair. The terrain park crew plans on building up Starlight and the Jib Park with the goal of opening those parks by next Friday. The park on Upper Sunday Punch remains intact consisting of a mix of boxes, a snowmaking pipe, and a couple jumps.

Along with the Aurora Peak Quad and the Jordan Bowl Express, lifts scheduled to open tomorrow include the Barker Mountain Express, South Ridge Express, White Cap Quad, Spruce Mountain Triple, and the Chondola at 8 a.m. The Locke Mountain Triple, Little White Cap Quad, and the Sundance Surface Lift are scheduled for a 9 a.m. start up. Last chair is 3:30 p.m. for some lifts, 3:45 p.m. for others.

After a day on the slopes, drop into the Foggy Goggle Saturday night for the Viking God or Goddess contest--either to watch or to compete to win a Gold New England Pass for the rest of the 2012-13 season. And did we mention Santa Claus? The fireworks? It's going to be off the hook. And, for Maine residents, this Sunday is Maine Day presented by the Bank of Maine. Just show proof of residency and you'll have access to $29 lift tickets, $20 rentals, and $39 ski or ride packages.

Sugarloaf Update 12/11/12

Strait from the site:
\Skiing and riding was a blast. Cold temps are back and the snow has begun to dry out after a messy afternoon of wintery mix yesterday. The snow was great, easy to set an edge in, yet fast as lightning for those that like to open the throttle now and again.

Temps bounced around the mid 20's today and the sun appeared amidst an overcast sky from time to time. As the night rolls on temperatures will continue to drop allowing snowmakers to resume blanketing the mountain in white. Snowmaking crews will tackle Ramdown, Whiffletree, Cruiser and the Stomping Grounds tonight.

Tomorrow will be another chilly one, temps should hover around the low 20's for most of the day, possibly into the mid teens at the top of the mountain. Dress warm and enjoy a beautiful day as it is predicted to be mostly sunny all day.

Groomers will tackle all open terrain tonight. The Stomping Grounds will receive a morning grooming this go around and should open on time tomorrow with soft landings and smooth transitions for all you freestyle folk.

Ticket Prices this week are $54 for adults, and $39 for juniors, seniors and teens.

Events:
Time to start making plans to head to the 'Loaf folks.  We've got a solid line-up of music and events for this weekend including Paranoid Social Club and Easy Company at the Widowmaker, and Maine Ski Day on Sunday.  If you're into discounted tickets and rentals, great music, and high spirits, than this is one weekend you won't want to miss out on.

While you're on the mountain don't forget to check out Sugarloaf's newest restaurant, 45 North.  This restaurant is just one of the on-mountain dining experiences here at the 'Loaf, and it comes with a Maine twist, so be sure to check it out!

Deals:
Everyone knows that after a long day of skiing and a Bag Burger, it's tough to pack up and drive home.  Wouldn't it be nice to have the option to stay the night without the hassle of making plans? With Zoom Rooms, you’ve got prepaid lodging in the palm of your hand.  Now, you can grab a room, stay the night and get right back on the slopes come morning.

Sugarloaf Update 12/10/12

Strait from the site:

Today was definitely one of those days to show up to the mountain early.   For a couple hours after lifts opened this morning the snow was falling at an alarming rate, and Sugarloafers rejoiced in the feeling of 3-4 inches of fresh powder under their skis and boards.  It was a short time frame to take advantage of conditions, because once late morning kicked in we received everything from sleet to freezing rain and everything in between.  Only in New England could you find such a mix.

After today, things are expected to cool back downover the course of the night and into Tuesday.  From there it looks like cold weather for the rest of the week, so expect snowmaking to resume sometime tomorrow morning.  Crews will keep blowing snow on Whiffletree and Haywire trails, with plans to focus on Spillway in the near future.

If you plan on hitting the slopes tomorrow you can expect nice cool temps in the 20's along with cloudy skies.  26 trails are scheduled to open, and groomers will cover as much terrain as possible over the night.

Ticket Prices this week are $54 for adults, and $39 for juniors/seniors and teens.

Sunday River Update 12/10/12

Strait from the site:
It’s always nice to have some natural snow fall to lift spirits and take a load off the hard working snowmakers. They’ll be back at it early tomorrow morning as long as temperatures drop as expected. Already with the most open terrain in New England, we now are the first to reach 200 acres! Ski Patrol dropped the ropes on Aludra, Lights Out, and Sirius this morning opening Aurora up for the first time this season.

It’s amazing to see this much open terrain with the little snow that has fallen this season, but our westward expansion must go on. The plan this week is to blow as much snow as the guns can handle. It’s only Monday, but it’s looking like we’ll be able to open the Jordan Bowl Express this weekend allowing ski-out access for hotel guests.
The Aurora Peak Quad is also on target for a weekend open just in time for Winterfest which kicks off on Friday. The Foggy Goggle is the place to be Saturday night as we tap into our Viking heritage here at Sunday River. Show up dressed in the sexiest Viking God or Goddess outfit you can put together and have a chance to win a Gold New England pass for the rest of the 2012-13 season. Winterfest is also the start of night skiing for the season. Friday night, you can ski or ride South Ridge and North Peak from 4-8 p.m. for just $5!

For those of you wondering what’s going on with our parks? Snowmaking plans for the early morning and tomorrow include building up the snow in Starlight, Rocking Chair, and the Jib Park. In the meantime, our terrain park located on Upper Sunday Punch is open and consists of 16 features! The plan is to have four terrain parks and a tubing park in South Ridge open by Christmas.
Lifts scheduled to open tomorrow morning include the Barker Mountain Express, South Ridge Express, White Cap Quad, Little White Cap Quad, Spruce Mountain Triple, the Chondola, and the Sundance Surface lift at 9 a.m. Last chair is 3:30 p.m. for some lifts, 3:45 p.m. for others. Don't forget to check the boards as you hop on for exact close times.

I'm Back!

I'm back from my wonderful vacation and updates will be conituing tonight. We went to Disney world but man all I could think about was snowboarding, it was awful. Hopefully everything will open this weekend just as projected, and will provide fora fruitful season, keep your fingers crossed!
